services: CNR – IRSA – TA is interested in projects about the diversification in aquaculture sector; this means to investigate the possibility to introduce the production of new species in this economic sector. - Identification of suitable species for diversification in aquaculture - Designing of farming system for invertebrates - Evaluation of growth performance - Induction of reproduction in invertebrates - Designing of cultivation system for seaweeds - Designing of Integrated multitrophic aquaculture system - Assessment of growth and bioremediation performance of macroalgae - Formulation and manufacturing of aquafeed - Assessment of growth performance of organisms fed with experimental feeds Besides these services strictly related to farming processes, we also offer our know-how about food quality and determination of biochemical composition of seafood and aquafeed. - Determination of proximal composition o Lipid content o Fatty acids o Protein content o Amino acids o Polyphenols

previous experience: CNR – IRSA – TA, also known as Istituto Talassografico, was founded in 1914 as support to shellfish farming in Taranto. Since then, research activities were addressed to different fields related to the sea: environmental chemistry, study in biodiversity, microbiology, ecotoxicology. Main previous projects related to aquaculture: • REMEDIA: REmediation of Marine Environment and Development of Innovative Aquaculture: exploitation of edible/not edible biomass – ReMEDIA Life - LIFE16 ENV/IT/000343 – www.remedialife.eu • RESURCH: “Research & technological development to improve economic profitability and environmental Sustainability of sea Urchin farming” - 2014-2016: SEVENTH FRAMEWORK PROGRAMME THEME: FP7-SME-2013 Proposal 606042 • REPAIR: “Reduction of epibiosis applied to Innovative Aquaculture”; Pilot Project - 2012-2014 EFF – European Fishery Fund 2007-2013. Measure 3.5 • SMIETT: “Development of a model integrated for mussel farm sustainable of the Taranto ecosystem” - 2007-2013: European Fishing Found, Measure 3.1 Collective Actions. • ACTI.BIO.MAR: “Extraction of active ingredients from marine biomass and their potential use in pharmaceutical and dietary” - 2007-2010: STRATEGIC PROJECT PUGLIA • REPORT: “Reduction of epibiosis through polyculture of oysters and sea urchins in the seas of Taranto” - 2007: EXPLORATORY Project PUGLIA

EXPERTISES:

Expertise: The seat of Taranto of IRSA was created in 1914 as Marine Biology State Laboratory of the Ministry of Finance. In 1940 it passed to CNR, assuming the name of “Istituto Sperimentale Talassografico A. Cerruti”, in honour of its founder. In 2001 became Institute for Marine and Coastal Environment and since September 2018 is secondary seat of IRSA. Currently, research activities are developed in algology, marine biology and ecology, environmental chemistry, microbiology, ecotoxicology, with implications in aquaculture, environmental conservation, anthropic impacts, bioremediation technologies. The study of functional and structural biodiversity is carried out by evaluating interactions between biotic and abiotic components; a particular interest is directed to global changes with the management of a LTER site and the problem represented by alien species.
